Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate - Chicago
An Am Law 100 Law Firm is seeking an attorney with a minimum of 3 years of experience in data privacy to join our expanding Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity group in Chicago. This position offers exceptional candidates the opportunity to work on cutting-edge issues, gain significant responsibility, and interact directly with clients while collaborating with experienced privacy and security attorneys across the U.S. and internationally.
Position Overview:
Our Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity group advises a diverse range of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to startups, in industries including technology, fintech, e-commerce, healthcare, retail, adtech, and entertainment. You will help clients navigate data protection compliance requirements both in the U.S. and globally. Responsibilities will include handling various data protection issues such as:
- Cross-border data transfers
- Product counseling
- Cookies and adtech compliance
- Regulatory investigations
- Ransomware responses
- Corporate transactions
- Evolving data protection laws
Qualifications:
- Education: Admission to practice law in Illinois with excellent academic credentials.
- Experience: 3+ years specializing in data protection legal advice.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with compliance issues related to CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, FTC Act, and other global privacy laws. Knowledge of HIPAA, FCRA, GLBA, COPPA, TCPA, and CAN-SPAM is beneficial.
- Documentation Skills: Experience in drafting and revising privacy notices, terms of service, incident response plans, information security policies, and other data protection documents.
- Contractual Experience: Proficiency in drafting and negotiating professional services agreements, vendor agreements, data processing agreements, and cross-border transfer agreements.
- Corporate Transactions: Experience in privacy and security-related due diligence for corporate transactions.
- Crisis Management: Skills in data breach preparation, risk mitigation, and response coordination.
- Certification: IAPP CIPP certification (U.S. and EU) is strongly preferred.
