Normal Work Schedule: Flexible; Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm
Job Summary: The Computer Support Technician assists the Digital Media Center’s Network Engineer with end user/workstation hardware, software, cabling, inventories/surpluses/assets, and work orders. Triages and repairs all IT hardware, software, and network related problems or ask for assistance in doing so. Assists with work order tickets for end users. Keeps all computer cabling neat throughout the entire facility. Keeps all end user workstation software up to date. Maintains all assets within the department KACE and JIRA management systems. Installs new software, hardware, and cabling. Rebuilds workstations. Moves computers. Erases hard drives. Assists with general cleaning and organizing. Assists the Network Engineer with additional tasks on an as needed basis (ex. system backups and imaging).
Required Minimum Qualifications: Current undergraduate student at The University of Alabama.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ability to interact and communicate in a professional manner with UA staff, faculty, alumni, and students. Ability to work independently and handle confidential information. Ability to complete assigned work in a timely manner. Ability to bend, pull, crawl, climb ladders and lift up to 50 lbs.
Skills and Knowledge: Working knowledge of Windows, MAC OS, MS Office, Adobe Premiere and Audition. Strong customer service skills. Strong communication skills. Proficient with basic office equipment, personal computers, and standard application software.
Preferred Qualifications: Audio/video knowledge. Ability to support video/audio editing machinery required. Networking and troubleshooting skills recommended but not required.
Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
