POSITION TITLE: Help Desk Technician and Outreach Support Associate
SALARY: Hourly, $17.00/hour
Reports to: Karla Chavez
Please note: only PCC students can apply. International students may not work off campus.
Overview of Position: This role aims to support the mission and vision of the Tucson Festival of Books. Responsibilities include organizing, implementing, and evaluating programs as well as assisting with event-related tasks to ensure success.
Program Location: The University of Arizona campus, office at 1201 N. Helen Street, most meetings and tasks will be confined to campus, but some will take the applicant off-site.
Duties & Requirements:
- Serve as an ambassador for the Tucson Festival of Books and address the need for improving reading literacy, especially among young people.
- Edit content/graphics housed in Tucson Festival of Books database
- Answer general questions via emails and/or phone calls about the TFOB
- Answer emails and phone calls about the TFOB website/mobile app and website various applications
- Work with all our committees on outreach to community groups, schools, and other targeted groups. This would include school visits, networking, and attending committee meetings.
- Working closely with committee members to help them with computer needs/issues.
- Help with planning social media campaigns.
- Participate and assist with the coordination of outreach programs associated with the Tucson Festival of Books which could include (not inclusive list):
o Festival Preview “Chapter One” – Sunday – November 2025
o Friend of the Festival activities – dates TBD
o Outreach at Bookman’s – March 7th & 8th 2026 (weekend before the Festival)
o Creative Arts Teen Summit – CATS Fiesta Friday – March 13th 2026
o Tucson Festival of Books – Saturday & Sunday, March 14th & 15th 2026 - Participate in community outreach activities such as presentations, displays, social media and other avenues to increase awareness of literacy issues.
- Assist with program evaluation after the Festival.
Minimum Qualifications & Skill requirements:
- Must be aged 18 or older.
- Some familiarity with either the Tucson Festival of Books and/or the University of Arizona
- Be willing to assist in organizing TFoB event programs
- Possess the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of volunteers
- Working knowledge of, or an eagerness to learn, event planning and operation
- Detail-oriented with organization skills
- Excited to work with the public, engage with diverse groups, and contribute to the success of the TFOB
- Independent and creative thinking
- Proficient with standard technologies like Microsoft Office, Google Suites, Canva, etc.
- Strong social skills as you will be interacting with a variety of individuals, including volunteers, event participants, and the general public.
- Proactive attitude for engaging with the public, fostering positive interactions, and contributing to the dynamic atmosphere of the festival.
- Able to communicate effectively using all standard communication tools, including phone, email, and text
- English language proficiency
- Must have reliable transportation to campus
- Hours will be weekdays, between the hours of 9 am – 5 pm
- Most hours will be in the office and follow a set schedule. This schedule will be set around class times and can be adjusted each semester
- Expect to work some early evenings and weekends – advance notice will be provided
- Must be able to list 30 pounds and be able to help load and unload Festival supplies as needed
