ITS Help Desk Technician - Winter Student Worker provides Tier 1 technical support via phone and in-person (as permitted), perform hardware/software troubleshooting for both Mac and PC systems, and assist with inventory, cleaning, and redeployment of IT equipment. Responsibilities include creating work orders, preparing equipment for use (cleaning, imaging, updating), moving or recycling devices, supporting event setups, and delivering or setting up new technology across campus. Additional tasks may include general errands and other duties as assigned.

Work is available: Monday-Friday; 8 am โ€“ 12 pm or 12:30 pm โ€“ 4:30 pm

Hours Per Week Expected:ย 20

Rate of Pay: $15.50/hr

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Providing Tier 1 phone support.

  • Creating and following work orders in TeamDynamix .

  • Cleaning keyboards, mouses, and other equipment so that they are available for redeployment.ย 

  • Assisting with maintaining accurate equipment Inventory.

  • General moving of equipment to/from storage areas, or to the electronics recycling area.

  • Troubleshooting software and hardware issues โ€“ both Mac and PC โ€“ which could include (but are not limited to) adding second monitors to desktops, running virus scans, installing printers and scanners, solving Gmail and production software (Word, Excel, etc.) questions and issues, assisting staff, deliver new equipment and remove existing.

  • Updating Events laptops.

  • Assisting with re-imaging and updating returned Mac and PC computers so professional staff can quickly configure and redeploy.

  • Working in the hardware area to remove hard drives and RAM from retired equipment.

  • Troubleshooting and resolving printer jams.ย 

  • Assisting the Professional Staff with the delivery and setup of new equipment, as well as the removal of old equipment from all Campus areas.

  • Assistance with the transport of equipment to sites for Event set-up and tear-down as needed.

  • General additional tasks โ€“ not necessarily technical/computer related (drop off/pick-up at mail room).

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and customer service skills.ย 

  • Ability to lift 25 lbs, travel up to .25 miles at a time across campus, communicate verbally and in writing with clients.

Compensation:

The rate for this position is $15.50/hr. ย Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
