The City of Medford is hiring an IT Support Technician to join our Innovation & Technology team. This position supports employees across all departments—no two days are exactly the same. From troubleshooting hardware and software issues to setting up new equipment and providing friendly, on-the-spot support, you'll be part of a team that keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes.


We're looking for someone who’s comfortable with Microsoft 365, has a knack for problem-solving, and enjoys helping others. Required Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
  • One (1) year experience in computer user support gained by education or work experience; or
  • Graduation from an accredited college with an associate degree or technical certificate in computer science or a closely related field.
  • A+ certification within six (6) months of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in supporting Microsoft Office 365
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong troubleshooting skills

Available Schedule: 

  • 8 hours daily, Monday - Friday

The anticipated hiring range for the IT Support Technician position is $32.26 (first step) to $33.87 or $35.57 (second or third step). The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education, experience, and qualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials, alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Six steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.

Examples of Job Duties

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Provides end user support for all systems and software, including but not limited to: Conducting periodic training; assisting users with understanding and using computer software, tools and services; troubleshooting and assisting users with computer software and hardware issues.
  • Installs and configures new software and hardware as required.
  • Upgrades and maintains computers, components, and peripherals including tests, diagnoses, and repairs. 
  • Ensures positive customer service through professional and courteous behavior and creative problem resolution.
  • Assists with maintenance of Active Directory and VoIP database.

Other Functions of the Position:
  • Maintains records and documentation on all Service Desk Jobs.
  • Creates documentation for procedures and knowledgebase systems and is able to develop clear computer application instructions and organized procedures.
  • Facilitates IT purchase orders with the Purchasing Department.
  • Monitors and maintains Service Desk equipment database and assists in maintenance of City asset warranty data.
  • Assists with mobile device management system to manage smartphones and tablets.
  • Assists in the testing and evaluating of new technology and services. 
  • Escalates support requests appropriately to next tier for problem resolution.
  • Scope of assigned area of responsibility will depend on departmental structure and is at the discretion of the Technology Services Director.
  • Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Demands: 
This position requires inside, office desk work that includes exposure to regular office noise and distractions, adequate lighting, and regulated HVAC systems in relation to temperature.  This position may also work on-site at different City locations and may be exposed to areas of high activity and environments of heat and humidity.

May require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of time; extensive use of computer keyboard; extensive verbal and electronic communication with system users; near visual acuity for performing programming or software installation functions. This position may involve extended periods of sitting and standing, with occasional walking, crouching, bending, stooping, twisting, turning, and balancing. Some positions require the ability to lift, carry and move computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
