Job overview 

The Help Desk Technician provides technical support for hardware and software issues submitted through the Help Desk. This role serves as the first point of contact for team members seeking IT support and plays a key part in keeping our systems and operations running smoothly.

 

In this position, you will ask thoughtful questions, troubleshoot effectively, and use your technical knowledge to diagnose and resolve issues whenever possible. When issues fall outside of your wheel-house, you will coordinate with other IT team members to ensure timely and appropriate escalation.

 

Beyond technical support, this role contributes to continuous process improvement, documentation, and team collaboration — helping strengthen both the IT function and the broader Speedway Motors team.


Here are the specifics:

  • Manage Help Desk tickets in a timely manner.
  • Respond to customer issues Help Desk tickets and chat.
  • Perform troubleshooting using different diagnostic techniques.
  • Offer technical assistance on the delivery, configuration, set up, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computer systems, hardware, and software.
  • Perform onboarding and offboarding tasks.
  • Keep record of problems and their resolution.
  • Escalate issues to the next Tier with next level of difficulty.
  • Install, make changes, and repair computer hardware and software.
  • Take action in accordance with the technical guidelines provided by the IT Management.
  • Follow-up with customers to ensure issues are resolved.
  • Provide technical support 24-7 on a rotating basis.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance. 
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety protocols. 
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and follow through on commitments.

Work Environment

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Regular walking and/or standing.
  • Ability to work while bending/reaching, twisting, kneeling, squatting or work above shoulder level.
  • Ability to pinch, grasp, and fine manipulation with fingers, in tight spaces.
  • Ability to concentrate in an environment that is generally noisy.
  • Air-conditioned and heated work environment.
  • Regular exposure to dust and noise.

 

What you’ll need to succeed in this position:

  • Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field, and at least one year of relevant IT support experience, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
  • Strong customer service mindset with the ability to assist team members at all levels of the organization in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of the Speedway IT Team, contributing to team goals and supporting a positive, solutions-focused environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical information to both technical and non-technical users.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve common hardware, software, and system issues.
  • Ability to follow established procedures, safety guidelines, and company policies.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies, software systems, and tools as part of ongoing professional development.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
