SCOPE OF POSITION: The Cyber Security Analyst is responsible for safeguarding the County’s Information Technology (IT) infrastructure to protect it against cyber threats, including but not limited to, bugs, malware, and unauthorized access from both internal and external sources.
The Facilities Operations team is committed to providing the employees and residents at Rockingham County a safe, supported, and environmentally conscious environment. The Cyber Security Analyst develops, implements, and continuously improves the County’s cybersecurity policies, procedures, and response plans while ensuring the protection of sensitive data and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The Cyber Security Analyst conducts regular security risk assessments/identifies vulnerabilities/recommends mitigation strategies to reduce potential threats, leads the County’s incident response efforts (ensuring timely identification, containment, and remediation of security breaches/threats), oversees forensic investigations/performs root cause analysis/proposes corrective actions, and coordinates internal/external audits to assess the effectiveness of cybersecurity measures. Further, this position develops/delivers cybersecurity awareness training to County employees, researches/evaluates new cybersecurity technologies, prepares and presents reports on cybersecurity performance/risk assessments/incident responses/ongoing initiatives to senior leadership, and collaborates with the Assistant Director of IT in preparing the cybersecurity budget for approval. The Cyber Security Analyst also maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
