Summary:
The Computer Support Technician assists Information Technology in all areas on campus with maintaining and installing computer hardware along with inventory management. This position reports to the Desktop Support Coordinator and works closely with all IT staff to achieve departmental goals.
Responsibilities:
The position of Computer Support Technician is responsible for assisting with all Information Technology related computer hardware. The ideal candidate will be able to work diligently and accurately and will possess a great problem-solving ability in order to fix issues, ensure functionality, and coordinate warranty needs with manufacturers. This position performs a variety of project tasks and requires good communication skills with the ability to work with others diplomatically and skillfully. The position will take day to day guidance from the Desktop Support Coordinator and will work closely with other Desktop Support personnel. Some supervision of student workers may be required.
Provide support for PC and Linux operating systems, but may be called on to support the Apple platform.
Responsible for troubleshooting Microsoft software issues.
Deploy and maintain computers, printers, and related peripheral devices on campus.
Responsible for working with the Desktop Support Coordinator to maintain a current asset inventory.
Track and document warranty-related issues with manufacturers.
Perform software installation, configuration, and troubleshooting pertinent to hardware components.
Assist in supervision of student employees.
Provide equipment usage training for faculty and staff as needed.
May be required to occasionally work hours outside of normal working hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution in Electronics, Computer Science or related field, and a minimum of 1 year relevant work experience, OR a High School Diploma and a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience
Knowledge of relevant PC equipment, operating systems (Windows, or Apple) office equipment such as copiers and fax machines, and knowledge of office productivity software (MS Office) and printers with copiers and fax machines
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to interpret manuals and online documentation, troubleshoot computers and equipment, recognize primary and secondary colors for hardware repair and network wiring, recognize electrical wiring, and operate PC and related software applications
Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work and establish relationships with other people
Valid motor vehicle license at the time of hire and must obtain a Wyoming driver’s license within 30 days of hire. Must be insurable under the College’s insurance plan at the time of hire.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
Experience with Jamf device management
Experience with Microsoft Configuration Manager
Experience with Linux
A+ certification or equivalent certification(s) demonstrating competency of a computer technician
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video display and other computer equipment. The employee occasionally works at heights, uses power tools, and works with and around machinery having moving parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, uses personal vehicle, and occasionally works in evenings or on weekends. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit, and occasionally stoops, kneels and crouches. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee regularly uses hand and power tools. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20-30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Also requires acute manual dexterity and continuous mental alertness and attention.
